I believe that the very purpose of our life is to seek happiness. That is clear. Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, we all are seeking something better in life. So, I think, the very motion of our life is towards happiness…

My dream is that Authentic Gecko will be more of a community than a blog one day. That means it won’t be me who defines what this site is about; it’ll be defined by people who write comments and posts sharing their ideas for living an authentic life.
But for now her is my vision:
Authentic Gecko about the is the intersection of two beliefs:
- That we all want to be happy
- That best way to be happy is to be your authentic self
What it means to be authentic differs from person to person, but the end goal is the same — to be happy.
Authentic Gecko is about the belief that life is a journey, and that each of us takes a different path on that journey. On each of our paths we have different adventures and different experiences and by sharing what we learn along the way we can learn from each other and make our own journey more rewarding.
But Don’t Go Getting All Preachy And High Falutin’
That all sounds so serious.
Maybe we can have a bit of fun along the way and try not to take ourselves too seriously.
You see, I’m hoping Authentic Gecko will become a place to share personal stories about how we each learn to live more authentically and what works and doesn’t work for us, and not a place to just repeat what the personal development masters have told us for years. Hopefully that will include some of the messy bits that make us human, a bit of humour, and some takeaway ideas that we can try in our own lives.
For now it’s just me, Heather, writing my story about how clueless I was (and am) and how I am struggling to live my authentic life. Hopefully over time I’ll fade into the background and Authentic Gecko will take on a personality of its own as more and more people share their thoughts, stories and sources of inspiration.
What Does Authentic Gecko Mean?
The authentic part is pretty straight forward. I believe the key to happiness is to be true to yourself and to let your true self show, i.e. to be authentic.
The Gecko part is a bit weirder and I think I’ll save most of the explanation for a separate post.
For now let’s just say that I was searching for an available domain name for this site and I was struggling to find something that was available and wasn’t too prissy.
I have a gecko tattoo that plays a small part in my journey toward authenticity; so the name is personally significant; and when I found the gecko at the top of the page he made me smile. So it was a done deal.
